What is a band board on a house?
Band boards are treated boards placed on the outside of your home behind your home’s exterior covering that cover the seam where your foundation and sill plate meet. Because band boards come in contact with the sill plate, the foundation and the outdoors, they are especially vulnerable to wood rot.

What size are band boards?
It can be 4’x8′ sheets that are 5/8″ thick or 3/4″ thick. Sheeting can also be accomplished by laying down rows of 2x4s, 2×6’s, 1x’s, or 5/4″ deck boards. There is no wrong or right and is your preference. Floor sheeting can be treated or untreated.

Is rim joist necessary?
Yes, if your framing a house or a deck you’ll need a rim joist. They create the edge of your floor framing and close off the open edges. For example, if your framing a 10×10 deck off the back of your house, you’ll probably be using 2×8 or 2×10 joists spaced 16 inches on center.
