Is wiseco a good piston?
Absolutely. Wiseco pistons are among the finest powersports pistons available. Unlike most OEM or other aftermarket pistons, Wiseco pistons are forged in-house at their own manufacturing facility.
How do I identify a Wiseco piston?
Your new Wiseco piston is marked on the top (crown) of the piston, indicating the direction. In most applications, the piston has an arrow intended to point toward the exhaust side of the engine (keep in mind this does not always mean the front of the vehicle).
Where do you measure Wiseco Pistons?
The piston must be measured at the bottom of the skirt, 90 degrees from the wrist pin hole to reach an accurate measurement. When measuring piston diameter, be sure you’re using the proper tools.
Do pistons increase horsepower?
The percentage increase in displacement from a bigger bore piston will deliver an equal percentage increase in torque and horsepower. For most applications, an increase of a full-point in compression ratio generally results in a four percent increase in horsepower and torque.
Are all Wiseco pistons forged?
Wiseco is unique because we forge all of our own pistons in house, and produce all of our own forge tooling right here in the USA. This allows us to control all aspects of our manufacturing process from raw bar to skirt coating finished parts.
What is Ovality of abore?
Ovality is necessary for the piston to move up and down in the cylinder bore, as the crankshaft and connecting rod try to force the piston upward, and combustion forces the piston downward, ovality allows the piston to move without binding in the round cylinder bore.”
Do pistons add horsepower?
Does forging an engine increase power?
It is true that forged pistons are heavier than cast pistons, but this is counteracted by the ability to provide a high compression ratio inside the engine, enabling the engine to rev higher and produce more power.
Why are forged pistons so strong?
The difference actually lies in application. The main characteristic that makes forged pistons excel in high performance applications is strength and durability. The process of forging compresses the molecules inside the alloy, which results in a denser surface area compared to a cast piston.
How much HP can forged internals add?
Stock cast pistons will limit you to 5800rpm, but cast pistons will hold more than 500hp. It is good to 7000 for forged pistons. It all depends on your goals and what you need to do.
