Is it better to shoot steel or brass ammo?
Brass Ammo Pros & Cons Brass ammo is generally considered to be better than steel-cased ammo because it creates a better chamber seal than steel. Thus you have less blowback into the chamber and the receiver. Brass is better at this sealing action because it is more malleable than steel.
What ammo does a Ruger Mini 30 take?
Ruger introduced the Mini-30 in 1986. Chambered in 7.62×39 mm, the semi-automatic rifle uses an action similar to that of the M1 Garand and the M-14. The bolt is cycled by bleeding gas from the barrel as the rifle is fired.
Does steel cased ammo hurt your gun?
While I don’t generally recommend steel cased ammo, it’s not going to hurt your rifle in limited amounts. If used exclusively however it will reduce the barrel life by about 4,000-5,000 rounds. Most if not all of this ammo uses a copper coated steel jacketed “bi-metal” bullet which increases wear on the barrel.
Which is better brass or steel?
While a more expensive option than brass, steel is a very durable, resilient metal. While brass is a copper alloy, stainless steel is an iron alloy mixed with chromium and nickel. Steel is also able to work in more temperatures than brass and tends to last longer.
How accurate is Mini 30?
The 7.62x39mm cartridge certainly has many virtues, but stellar accuracy is not one of them. Even so the Mini-Thirty acquitted itself quite well. Best accuracy was obtained using Hornady’s 123 grain SST load which averaged 2.2 inches at 2,265 fps. Winchester’s 120 grain PDX1 load averaged 2.7 inches at 2,320 fps.
Is the Ruger Mini 30 still in production?
The Mini Thirty is still produced to this day and still enjoys popularity in the target shooting and hunting communities alike. There is even a tactical version available now with a shortened 16” barrel and flash-hider.
Is steel cased ammo magnetic?
Steel cases are magnetic and trash after they are shot. (They can also trash semi-automatics.) Most shooting ranges will run a magnet over the grounds to remove all steel cases, then pick up the brass for reconditioning and resale.
