It was officially opened following a Remembrance Day ceremony on 11 November 1941 by the then Governor-General Lord Gowrie, a former soldier whose honours include the Victoria Cross. Additions since the 1940s have allowed the remembrance of Australia’s participation in all recent conflicts.

This means that there is no longer any free parking at places like Questacon, the National Gallery, Portrait gallery, National library etc. Some places give you 2 hours free like shopping centres, others like the National Gallery, require validation before you can exit.

This is a wonderful adventure of a place, with all kinds of exhibits that make science fun and accessible. It’s pitched at kids but as 50 something adults we found plenty to enjoy. Don’t worry that there are only children in line for ‘the leap of faith’: adult size overalls are available.
