What kind of tape do you use for laminate underlayment?
We recommend to use duct tape as every hardware store carries this product. Some manufacturers sell specialized tape for underlayment but there is no extra benefit.

Once you have made your choice, fitting underlay below laminate flooring is straightforward if you have the right tools and a surface that is well-prepared. On wooden and other types of floor lay the underlay with the rubber side down, and again tape the seams with an appropriate underlay tape.
Can you use packing tape for underlayment?
Packing tape will keep the underlayment as a vapor barrier. If you use masking tape it is no longer a vapor barrier. The plastic tape prevents moisture transmission. The pad should be fine.
Do you tape down underlayment?

Should I tape vapor barrier flooring?
While laying the vapor barrier, ensure a 6-inch overlap along any seam between sheets. Seal the seams with no gaps using duct tape or moisture-resistant and long-lasting tape. Some plastic sheeting vapor barriers have self-sealing edges, so you don’t have to worry about running out of tape or using the wrong kind.
