What is ISO NPG gelcoat?
Gelcoat Iso/npg is a gelcoat based on a mixture of pre-accelerated neopentylglycol and isophtalic unsaturated polyester resin, pigmented with lightfast pigments.
What exactly is gelcoat?
Gelcoat or ‘Gel Coat’ is a material used to provide a high-quality finish on the visible surface of a fibre-reinforced composite. The most common gelcoats are thermosetting polymers based on epoxy or unsaturated polyester resin chemistry. Gelcoats are modified resins which are applied to moulds in the liquid state.
What is the catalyst for gelcoat?
MEKP
POLYESTER RESIN/GELCOAT IS CATALYZED WITH MEKP (METHYL ETHYL KETONE PEROXIDE). THE RATIO IS APPROXIMATELY ONE OUNCE OF HARDENER PER GALLON OF RESIN. USE THE FOLLOWING RATIOS FOR SMALLER AMOUNTS. THESE AMOUNTS ARE EASILY MEASURED IN THE OUNCE CUP WHICH IS SUPPLIED WITH THE RESIN.
How much does it cost to gel coat a catalyst?
Always use 2% catalyst in Gelcoats.
What is NPG used for?
Neopentyl glycol (NPG) is used primarily in base resins for coatings. Important uses are also found in hydraulic fluids, synthetic lubricant oils, greases, metal-working fluids and aircraft engine lubricants.
Is Catalyst the same as hardener?
Hardener and catalyst are basically the same product. In general a catalyst hardener causes a chemical reaction which results in “setting” of the epoxy resin.
What is NPG 90?
Eastman NPG™ 90 (neopentyl glycol) is a liquid above 38°C and is used primarily in the manufacture of high-quality polyester resins for a variety of industrial coatings & fiberglass reinforced plastics. NPG™ 90 is also used as an intermediate to formulate a variety of synthetic lubricants.
How is neopentyl glycol made?
Neopentyl glycol is synthesized industrially by the aldol reaction of formaldehyde and isobutyraldehyde. This creates the intermediate hydroxypivaldehyde, which can be converted to neopentyl glycol with either excess formaldehyde or by palladium on carbon hydrogenation.
What is the difference between ISO-neopentylglycol – ISO/NPG and ISO-NPG-gelcoat?
Gelcoat:based on iso-neopentylglycol – ISO/NPG pre-accelerated Advantages: H08 ISO/NPG-gelcoat is distinguished especially by excellent UV resistance, very good osmosis resistance, good weather resistance, low yellowing and excellent mechanical values. Process:brushable – PZ sprayable – SZ

Is marine gelcoat non-sagging?
Our premium, high-viscosity marine gelcoat is non-sagging, and super strong. In fact, its ISO/NPG (Isophthalic/Neopentyl Glycol) resins are considerably more durable than standard, orthophthalic resin formulas.
Why choose totalboat marine gelcoat?
Our premium, high-viscosity marine gelcoat is non-sagging, and super strong. In fact, its ISO/NPG (Isophthalic/Neopentyl Glycol) resins are considerably more durable than standard, orthophthalic resin formulas. TotalBoat marine gel coat can be colored prior to adding catalyst.
