How long does it take for Tetra safe start to work?
The live bacteria start working immediately to provide a safe and healthy environment for your fish without the long wait. SafeStart Plus can also be used after a water change, when adding fish or after medicating. New filters are sterile and take 30 to 40 days for bacteria to naturally form.
Is too much ammonia remover bad for fish?
Overdosing many of the ammonia removing products on the market will actually inhibit the nitrifying bacteria from growing and becoming established in the new tank. First, many ammonia removers are acids, so repeatedly adding them to the aquarium water will cause the pH to drop.
How do Tetra Safe Start bacteria work?
Follow these exact steps to properly use Tetra SafeStart or API Quick Start:
- Dechlorinate your water no less than 24 hours before adding the bacteria.
- Shake the bottle of bacteria hard.
- Pour in double the recommended dosage.
- Add 1 SMALL fish per 10 gallons of water.
- Feed your fish every other day.
Can you use too much safe start?
You can, if you wish to, but it is not necessary. I would recommend using 1/3 of the bottle, cap the bottle tightly, and store it properly. It will be good for up to 6 months afterwards. Since the tank is new, you may want to add more when you add an additional fish, or after your first water change.
How often should I use Tetra Safe Start?
Use a gravel cleaner to siphon debris without disturbing aquarium decor or needing to remove fish. Change the Filter Cartridge at least every four weeks, or when you see a noticeable reduction in water flow. Add Tetra AquaSafe® or Tetra SafeStart® whenever you add water or fish to your aquarium.
Do you need bacteria starter for fish tank?
Each aquarium needs a certain time until it is “robust” enough to deal with small problems. But to ensure that the bacteria cultures develop steadily the aquarium start should be initiated with a bacteria starter. This doesn’t mean that the complete fish stock can be added.
