The Geothermal Generator is an IC2 Machine used to generate EU. It works on the same basic principle as normal Generators do, except in this case they use the heat of Lava to generate electricity. The Geothermal Generator will connect to Waterproof Pipes, and will receive Lava carried by them.

A Geothermal Generator is a power-generating machine from IndustrialCraft 2. It acts similar to the original Generator, but requires Lava instead of furnace fuels. It accepts both Lava buckets and Lava Cells; the latter are stackable and thus require less maintenance, but cost Tin to produce.
What can I use the Geothermal Generator for?
It can supply IC2 machines with Energy Units (EU) or charge tools and batteries in its GUI. The Geothermal Generator uses Lava to generate EU; it will take Cans, Tanks of any type, Cells, or Buckets. The first two can be used to store Lava and are thus more preferable.
Can you use lava buckets in geothermal generators?
Geothermal Generators accept both Lava Buckets and Lava Cells. The Lava Cells are stackable and thus require less maintenance, but cost 4 Tin ingots to produce. Lava source blocks (obtained from NEI or crafted using UU-Matter) cannot be used. It has an advantage over normal generators in that it does not waste power.
How many units of lava can a Geothermal Generator store?
A single Geothermal Generator can store 24 units of lava internally and another stack of 64 lava cells will wait in the fuel queue until needed or removed by player – thus, inserting a full stack of Lava Cells will instantly use up 24 of them and fill out the lava gauge.
