How do you resolve a galactocele?
Treatment is by aspiration of the contents or by excision of the cyst. Antibiotics are given to prevent infection. Galactoceles may be associated with oral contraceptive use.
Can galactocele turn into cancer?
Can galactoceles turn into cancer? No. They are cysts filled with breast milk and cannot turn into cancer. They also do not increase the risk of developing breast cancer.
How to identify galactocele?
Galactoceles typically appear as small, round hypoechoic nodules in a sonogram. They usually have well-defined margins with thin walls, but may rarely appear to have indistinct or microlobulated margins.
Can you breastfeed after galactocele?
Milk may express from this type of cyst when it’s massaged. Your doctor may take a sample of the contents of the cyst, or order an ultrasound to confirm that it’s benign. Galactoceles usually go away on their own when you stop breastfeeding.
Do Galactoceles flow blood?
Consequently, galactoceles can be seen as a simple cystic mass, a mixed cystic-solid lesion or as a solid mass with distal acoustic attenuation, as seen in our case. The latter appearance can sometimes be confused with a malignant lesion [3]. Colour Doppler will show a lack of blood flow.
Can galactocele calcify?

Do lactating adenomas go away?
Following pregnancy and breastfeeding, lactating adenomas will usually clear up by themselves. Furthermore, often no additional treatment is necessary. However, sometimes the treating physician will prescribe bromocriptine, or another dopamine agonist, to help ‘shrink’ the size of the tumor .
Can a galactocele rupture?
A galactocele (Fig. 1) is the most common benign mass lesion diagnosed during lactation. It often develops following cessation of breastfeeding, when milk is stagnant [1]. This can lead to duct dilatation and obstruction/rupture, with extravasation of milk into the surrounding stroma.
