Just: take the armor > equip > open the gate > go through quest normally > DONT TAKE THE SECOND SET DROPPED BY THE OTHER GUY > when the maid talks to you at the other area, try tossing the armor to junk (dont store it, it might get stuck if you retrieve it even after the quest) > reload if that doesnt work.
