How does a tattoo gun power supply work?
A tattoo DC power supply can be of two (2) types – rotary and coil. While rotary machines use a DC electric motor (with a rotor and stator), coil machines use coils of wire wrapped around a steel core. An RCA connector is used to make sure that the current is fed into the tattoo machine without any disruptions.
Is a tattoo power supply AC or DC?
Every tattoo power supply uses direct current to power your machine. That brick-shaped adapter that you plug into the wall converts the AC voltage from your outlet into DC voltage for your power supply/machine.
Can you use any power supply for a tattoo gun?
All tattoo machines sport a variety of volt outputs for you to choose from. Some super-compact power supplies can host as little as 1.5 to 2 volts, but some, that may be just enough. On the other hand, more powerful power supplies can run from 10 to 15 volts.
Can you plug a tattoo machine into an extension cord?
Yes, make sure you plug the AC adapter directly into a main outlet or direct power source. Plugging it into an extension cord or power strip is not recommended due to the likelihood of an overload.
What number do I set my tattoo power supply to?
Six volts is appropriate for lining. Most tattoo artists adjust voltage by listening carefully to the sound of the gun–it should produce a steady buzz or a hum. The sound shouldn’t crackle or sound make a staccato noise such such as those made by machine guns or typewriters.
How far should the needle stick out of my tattoo gun?
The tip of the needle should not be sticking out anymore than 2mm and no less than 1mm. Keep in mind that every person’s skin type is different and there is no exact measure. If during your tattoo there are excessive amounts of blood, it is obviously going in too deep.
