Curly Howard suffered a stroke in 1946 that forced him to retire, and he died six years later. He was replaced in 1946 by Shemp Howard, who was with the Stooges until 1955, when he died. Final months and death On January 7, 1952, Moe was contacted on the Columbia set while filming He Cooked His Goose to help move Curly for what would be the last time. This proved to be unsuccessful and Curly died eleven days later, on January 18, 1952. He lived the shortest life of the Stooges, dying at the age of 48.
