How are racking beams measured?
To measure the pallet rack cross beams, first measure from the inside of one upright to the inside of the opposite upright. This inside dimension between the two up rights is the length of the beam. In many instances the measurement will be in one foot increments.
What is a racking beam?
Pallet rack beams provide support for pallet racks to assure the racks have adequate support for the weight of the products stored on them, ensuring they don’t bow or create an unsafe condition. Racking beams are made from heavy-gauge, powder-coated steel for strength and durability.
What is beam pallet racking?
A pallet rack beam, sometimes called a cross beam, connects to pallet rack frames to form the shelf level of a pallet rack system. These heavy-duty steel rails have a standard 1 5/8” step, which makes them compatible with wire decking, pallet supports or wood supports.

How do you determine the capacity of a pallet rack?
Take the weight and then multiply it by the number of loads you hypothetically intend to store. Then take that number and multiply it by the beam levels per bay. To use an example, if the heaviest load is 1,200 pounds and you intend to put three on a pallet position, then the beam capacity is 3,600 pounds.
How high can pallet racks go?

What are step beams?
Pallet Rack Step Beams Also known as crossbeams, these heavy-duty steel rails connect to the teardrop uprights to form a secure level of pallet storage.
