Can your hair still grow with split ends?
No. Split ends will not stop your hair from growing longer. As long as you’re alive and don’t suffer from a medical disorder that causes you to lose your hair, your hair will always grow according to your individual hair growth cycle, whether you have split ends or not.
What happens when your ends split?
Once a hair strand splits at the end, the damage will only progress. Left untouched, a split end will continue to split all the way up the hair shaft, damaging the entire strand beyond repair. Split ends no longer have a smooth cuticle covering them, so they naturally catch and snag on each other and on healthy ends.
What causes split end?
Split ends happen when the ends of your hair become dry, brittle, and frayed. Exposure to extreme weather conditions, and hair care techniques such as blow drying, straightening, and curling may cause split ends. They’re also caused by chemical hair products.
How can you tell if you have split ends in your hair?
Either take a plucked strand of hair or hold your hair in front of you. Take a magnifying glass and examine the hair for signs of splitting, fraying or feathering. Realize that just looking at a strand or two of hair won’t help you find the split ends. Instead, it will give you an idea of how healthy your hair is.
What should I do if I have split ends?
If you have a lot of split ends, consider getting a complete trim of all of your hair cutting at least 1/4 to 1/2 inch off the ends. Always use scissors to trim in a straight line. Never tear the hair using your fingertips. Prevent split ends in the future. Be gentle on your hair. Avoid repeated hair treatments that can damage your hair.
How can you tell if a split has formed?
Thickening splits: the split has formed but the ends haven’t separated yet. Offshoot splits: there is a white spot from where a thickening split formed, but didn’t actually split off. Incomplete split: the split formed, but then joined together at the end and continued growing. Use a magnifying glass.

How to know when to get a split end?
I mean, you can hold them really, really close to your face and see if they look frayed, or wrap them around your fingers and see if it looks more like a porcupine than a smooth, sleek piece of hair. Those are just my amateur ways of figuring it out.
Is it normal for hair to split in two?
Your ends can split in a variety of ways. You may notice the classic end split in two, or smaller, just barely split ends.
