Can you stain teak furniture?
Stains can be applied to plantation teak, though at most we would suggest a semi-transparent stain to not cover up the beautiful texture and grain of the wood. Teak is naturally water resistant and highly durable in exterior uses so generally we recommend an oil stain, but water based can be used as well.

How long does a semi-transparent stain last?
3-4 years
Semi-transparent stains are the lightest in color, allowing much wood grain to be seen. They can come in nearly any color, and they typically last 3-4 years.
Is semi-transparent or solid stain better?
For newer wood, go with clear, transparent or semi-transparent stains — that way some grain still shows through. Semi-solid stains are a better choice for decks that have seen their share of cookouts. You’ll still see some grain, but you’ll hide more of the wear and tear your deck has endured.
Can teak wood be stained a different color?
Not all woods stain the same way and since teak is a valuable wood, it’s important to make sure it’s ready to be stained. Teak wood also does not return to it’s original golden brown color once stained so it is best to be meticulous when staining the wood.
Can you paint or stain teak furniture?
Yes. You can paint teak wood. It is easy to paint, and you are at liberty to choose your preferred colors. Although the wood’s oils inhibit paint adhesion and may bleed through the finishes, a touch of paint will give your outdoor setting the needed refresh.

How do you change the color of teak furniture?
Paint on a layer of stain. A foam or bristle brush will do fine, but you can also use a cloth dipped in stain to color your teak furniture. Apply an even coat all over. If there are any parts of the furniture you don’t want to stain, use masking tape to protect them.
Can you change the color of teak wood?
The heartwood of the tree where teak comes from is also naturally termite resistant and doesn’t change colors or warp when it comes in contact with different metals, which adds to its longevity and durability. If the teak is aged and has turned a silver-gray color it must be sanded before being stained.
