Can you donate hair if you smoke?
Even though we all know that smoking is bad for you, you still can donate your hair if you want to. Just make sure that you keep it as healthy as possible. If your hair isn’t healthy enough they will tell you at the salon… But normally there’s no problem with using the hair of someone who smokes!
What disqualifies hair donation?
A: We cannot accept hair that has been chemically processed – perms, color treated or highlights. Coloring must have completely grown out and natural hair grown back before we are able to accept it for hair donation.
Can you donate damaged hair?
Hair We Share and Children with Hair Loss both accept colored or grey but not highlighted hair over 8 inches. Locks of Love and Pink Heart Funds both take hair colored or grey but not over-processed or bleached hair over 10 inches. Wigs for Kids will take grey, but not dyed, hair that is at least 12 inches long.
What are the rules for donating your hair?
For your hair to be eligible for donation, the hair must be clean and dry and be at least 12” in length (curly hair needs to stretch flat to 12”). Hair that is bleached or permed cannot be donated. Hair that is slightly coloured may be donated.

Because Locks of Love creates custom hairpieces for each child, we are unable to accept donations of wigs, falls, hair extensions or synthetic hair. Along with your donation, please include the donation form.
