Can I reuse exhaust manifold studs?
You could reuse them, if you think they look good, but your chances of one breaking later have gone up now. I replace them every time, just heat the area around the studs, and melt a candle or crayon into the threads, let cool, they should come out easy, may need to heat again.
What size are exhaust manifold studs?
Re: Exhaust manifold stud size The measurements are M8-1.25 X 38MM. The studs also have a shoulder about a quarter way up the short end of the stud.
Why do exhaust manifolds use studs instead of bolts?
Studs provide the ability to obtain much more accurate torque values because the studs don’t twist during tightening as do bolts. Because the studs remain stationary during nut tightening, the studs stretch in one axis alone, providing much more even and accurate clamping forces.
Can I reuse my header bolts?
The stock header bolts can be reused many times. As long as the threads look good and your not wanting to spend the coin on new ones go for it.
Should I replace exhaust manifold?
A faulty manifold must be taken off and inspected, and replaced with new manifold. Unfortunately, the exhaust manifold is an absolutely critical component to your vehicle, and if you ignore your cracked manifold, the problem will only get worse and more expensive.
Should exhaust manifold bolts be reused?
In addition, we recommend replacing all of the bolts with OEM mounting bolts or studs. When you replace the manifold with a new one, it will be prone to the same warping that broke the bolt originally – so at the very least, be sure to replace all of the bolts with OEM mounting bolts or studs.
Do you need new header bolts?
Regular header bolts have a tendency to loosen-up do to engine thermo-cycling (heating up and cooling down) and engine vibration. They need to be re-torqued several times. They also need to be re-torqued.
